  • 2 cups grape skins (red grapes preferred for deeper colour)
  • 300 ml water
  • 1 tbsp vinegar (fixative)
  • Optional: salt (for colour intensity)

Method

6 steps
  1. 1 Collect grape skins — Use fresh pomace from winemaking or leftover grapes.
  2. 2 Simmer skins — Place skins in water and simmer for 30 minutes.
  3. 3 Add vinegar — Helps fix colour to fabric or paper.
  4. 4 Strain — Remove skins and keep the coloured liquid.
  5. 5 Soak material — Submerge fabric or paper for several hours.
  6. 6 Dry naturally — Allow colour to set.
